'Namgis Papikalan Community Cabin

Offered through partnership with the 'Namgis First Nation, the off-grid 'Namgis Papikalan Community Cabin sleeps 12 in four bunk rooms, with propane & wood heat, indoor RV style toilet (no running water, 350 meter walk to access).

$440/night +tx.

Thank you to the 'Namgis First Nation for this collaboration within their traditional territory. The Mount Cain ski area is in the mountainous area known as Papikalan in Kwak’wala (‘place of marmots').

The 'Namgis Papikalan Community cabin is operated by MCAPS in collaboration with the 'Namgis band.

The cabin is located across the lake from the main Mount Cain base area (you can see it from the back deck of the Lodge). Note that access to this cabin involves a 350 meter walk along a groomed, but not cleared, access trail accessed from near the Lower Cabin Road. The trail will be groomed once on Friday, but you must be prepared to walk 350 meters (with some uphill), transporting all of your food and gear, in the snow. If it snows a significant amount during your stay (hurray!) the walk back to the parking lot will be much more challenging, even if it is downhill for part of the way!

The details:

Upstairs bedrooms (4 rooms):

  • Two rooms with two sets of bunk beds (twin over twin)
  • Two rooms with one bunk bed (twin over twin)

Main Floor:

  • One bathroom with a marine style toilet
  • One propane cookstove / oven
  • One propane wall heater
  • Large lounging and dining areas, including a pullout sofa
  • One wood cookstove/oven

You will find cups, mugs, pots/pans, plates, bowls, utensils, and coffee/tea pot you need for your stay in the cabin, along with some Sanicide to dilute for rinsing dishes after washing so that they are clean and sanitized for the next group.

The perfect fit for an off-grid adventure. There is no running water or electricity to this cabin. Water jugs are provided (you can refill them as needed in our water room outside the ski shop) and all other amenities are run off propane.

Note that we prefer to leave the wood cookstove/oven un-used for liability reasons, but it is available to provide additional heat. The living room has a large, high, vaulted ceiling and warming this space takes a long time so pack yourself slippers and cozy cabin clothes as it takes much longer to warm up than our other accommodations, no matter what heating method you use, due to the large area that needs to be heated.
